Avalon is complete and it’s full of rustic modern charm! This was a fun project because it was already a fairly nice house (minus the awful cabinets, and flooring) but we had the opportunity to make it so much nicer. The home needed a lot of the essentials – new plumbing throughout, updated electrical, bringing laundry inside, etc… All of which make a big impact on the selling side but not so much when it comes to Before and & Afters. Nonetheless, it was still a pretty great transformation! We installed new wood tile flooring throughout the house. I got a rockin’ deal and it was the perfect house to try this new product in! From the very beginning I knew that this house needed a different ‘look’ but at first I couldn’t put my finger on it. This tile was what gave me the inspiration to embrace a slightly more rustic style and inspired me to design a reclaimed wood fireplace. Freddie built this for us and did an awesome job! Not only does it look great, but it was great to be able to reuse discarded materials in a beautiful way. In the kitchen I chose to do two-tone cabinets with dark brown cabinets on the bottom and grey cabinets on the top (Yes – Those are my favorite color… Grey Squirrel by Martha Stewart!) These were complimented by premium granite countertops with a glass and raw quartz backsplash! I carried these same materials throughout the house and into one of my other favorite spaces: The new master suite! We gutted this space and totally reconfigured it from what it was before… Remember my “Space Planning” blog about a month ago? While this is the space! We closed off a walkway from the kitchen and created a pantry there instead. This allowed us to expand the existing small bathroom into a full master bathroom offer double vessel sinks, a private toilet, and a huge walk-in shower complete with an amazing shower-spa system. Not only that, but by reconfiguring that space we were able to double the size of the master closet so that it’s a formal walk-in! This size master suite is a rare find in Central Phoenix and will definitely be a big selling point. Out back, we installed sod! Yay! It was my first time, but with such a large yard and irrigation already in place… I couldn’t resist and the result was beautiful!
All the rustic touches in this home was something very new for me, but it was such much fun and altogether I think the home has a very unified look now! Avalon was fully photographed and just hit the market! For all the before and afters go to: http://www.mrjamesjudge.com/avalon-drive.html

MY FLIP TIP: Get outside of your comfort zone. If the house needs a different ‘look’ don’t give in… Work until you know what that look needs to be and then embrace it!
